"Access control list (ACL) inheritance is blocked for the Public Folder tree object." Exchange 2003 to 2010 Migration

I'm doing an 03 to 2010 migration and the readiness checks reveals the error:

Mailbox Role Prerequisites
Failed

Error:
Access control list (ACL) inheritance is blocked for the Public Folder tree object (CN=Public Folders,CN=Folder Hierarchies,CN=KENT,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Domain,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domainname,DC=com). Re-enable the inheritance and restart setup.

I went to the 03 server and selected the public folders > properties > security > advanced and the inheritable permissions box isn't checked.. What I'm nervous about is by checking that box will it change any of the existing permissions and possibly cause an issue?

Thanks

Hi, It should give any problem... Refer below.

You may also encounter problems when mounting public folder stores if you have turned off the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object option for the public folder hierarchy. The following error messages indicate this type of problem:

  • The store could not be mounted because the Active Directory information was not replicated yet.
  • The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service could not find the specified object. ID no: c1041722
